Sooo..i continue.
Well, the old people decided to help me out despite them not speaking very good English but they kindly instructed the German lady sitting beside me to help me out with the phrases that I was working upon, during the flight if possible. The lady did..to my surprise. Imagine you being asked on the flight to give teaching lessons! I had cringed with embarrassment when she had been asked on my behalf but couldnt hurt the old lady's feelings as well. So I went along with it and found, I quite enjoyed talking to the lady sitting beside me. She was a nurse, on her way to Frankfurt and then to Berlin.

So..rumour number one got a big cross from me. It says " Germans are impolite and unfriendly." I say "negative."

When we were about to land, they said the temperature outside was about -3 degrees. I shivered at the thought. I had never been in such a temperature..at the most, back home, we had 2 degrees and that was like...the lowest in my part of India.
I prepared myself, wearing all the warm clothes that I had been carrying on hand.
The plane landed and the old people came back to escort me to the baggage claim counter. They even helped me with my bags. I thanked them and told them, I was fine and nothing to worry about. I had to go through the immigration. I always thought those guys are horrid people with grumpy faces ( I had encountered some in the past) but here I got a pleasant surprise.

The immigration officer asked me if I planned to stay longer, wished me a nice stay and asked me if I needed any help with going out since I didnt know any German and all the signs at the Airport were in German. I looked at the long queue that had formed after me and decided to plunge in. I asked him where the train station was cos I had to travel again from Frankfurt to my ultimate destination in Germany, Bremen. He shows me the way and tells me that I could come back and ask again if I wasnt able to find the station despite directions. I smiled and thanked him and went on my way, assuring him, it wouldnt be a problem. Phew!! I wondered, is everyone so nice here?? Where on earth did people get an impression from that Germans were unfriendly?

I found the station after a bit of hussling around and bought a ticket for myself. The train was after 2 hours. By this time, the food eaten in the plane (ghastly) had already dissappeared somewhere in my body and I was feeling a bit peckish. I found to my horror everything closed. Sigh..oh dear..what now?

I thought, ummm..lets go down to the platform and sit there and wait for the train. I went downstairs and then, it hit me! Bloody hell! I know now what they mean when they say it is -3 degrees!!I was horrified. Not funny when u freeze on the stop. I might have been prepared physically but I guess I wasnt prepared for the mental impact it would have. It had snowed a bit and it was freezing..brrrrrr...my body shivered and shivered and wouldnt stop!! Oh jesus. My legs shot straight to the lift for upstairs.
The lady at the ticket counter looked at me. I said, " Its freezing down there!". She laughed and said, " Welcome to Germany!" That cheered me up a bit and the smile was back on my face. :)

I sat down in the waiting lounge that the lady pointed me too. Hungry, no ciggerattes left. Damn, I told myself, I should have thought of this before. Now am stuck. Oh God, what to do now?

A few minutes went by... Then, a family came and down beside me. Zambian husband ( I found out later), the kids and a fat German woman. I was bored. I got out my Lonely Planet and began to practise phrases in German ( was hungry and didnt want to read but what can a person do when bored and hungry?)
I mustered up the courage and asked them, in my broken German, " Enschuldigen sie, sprechen sie Englisch?" They had been staring at me time and again so I took this chance. They asked me where I was from. I told them, I had just landed and was an Indian. I moaned on how bad it was that big Airports didnt have a 24 hour cafe. The lady asked her husband something in German and the man turned to me and said, " Actually, if you're hungry, I can get you something to eat. I am going to go down to MacDonalds in the city and get something for my children. Would you like something?"
Surprised, I asked him if he could kindly bring me some burger and coke..anything..it didnt matter what it was.
The guy went and came back with coke and burger. I asked him how much I owed him and he said, " Dont be silly. It doesnt cost that much. I just got something for my children and its ok if I get something for you too. "
I insisted. I had money that I had changed at the Mumbai Airport apart from my cards. They refused to take it and said, " I know you are from India and people are rich there nowadays but we're christians and not so poor either. It will not hurt us to pay for a guest in our country. " For the fear of offending them, I shut up but was so warmed by this gesture. Are they humans or angels?Where do they come from, helping people like me in distressed times?

They helped me with my luggage when the train came. I thanked them for their kindness and waved them goodbye. In the train, another old couple helped me put my luggage in place and the man offered me a ciggeratte ( I was luckily in the smoking zone) They woke me up when my station came and helped me with my luggage. I thanked them and got down the train where the AIESEC people were waiting to receive me.
